Job Description

.METRO ACCESSIBLE OPPORTUNITY*

This position will perform construction management work that includes inspecting construction projects for compliance with Virginia's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit and mandated requirements to achieve water quality standards, prevent pollution and detect and eliminate illicit discharges. The position is located in the Development Services Bureau, Transportation Division, Department of Environmental Services, Arlington County, VA. Specific duties include:
investigating and inspecting land disturbing activities and construction projects for compliance with the following State and County ordinances: Erosion and Sediment control, Chesapeake Bay Preservation, Storm water management;
inspecting permits and projects for compliance with approved plans and County standards and specifications;
issuing notices of violation or stop-work orders to builders or property owners performing illicit land disturbing activities or generating illicit water discharges;
meeting with citizens, builders and property owners to mitigate illicit water discharges and recommend resolutions to reported issues;
maintaining logs and reports; and assisting other inspectors with inspections, regulation and enforcement of other related developer construction activities.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Must be able to read and interpret construction plans and suggest modifications due to field conditions. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and familiarity with GIS software are required.
Must have both the Commonwealth of Virginia Stormwater Management Inspector Certification and the Commonwealth of Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector
