PIPE LAYER

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Must have prior experience working in a storm drain or sewer pipelaying operation.

- Must be able to understand and interpret grade information and able to read and interpret grade instruments such as rules, grade rods, carpenter levels and lasers.

- Must have a basic knowledge of soil types, trenching and shoring.

- Shovel work, lifting pipes and operating compaction devices will be required on a continuous basis.

- Must be able to carry out detailed instructions and be motivated to work without direct supervision.

- Must have the ability to work safely and follow the policies and procedures of the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : NONE

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
