Commercial Solar Interconnection and Utility Relations Manager

SUMMARY OF ROLE

SunPower's Commercial Solar Interconnection and Utility Relations Manager will drive improved utility timelines and interconnection outcomes as a passionate advocate for our Commercial Business. The role is responsible for proactively navigating the complex interconnection policy environment by coordinating closely with Sales, Engineering and Project Management internally as well as with external stakeholders. Additionally, this role will manage the interconnection process on projects across multiple states and escalate current issues through utilities and oversight organizations, effectively communicating and disseminating solutions internally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):

  • Proactively collaborate with utilities and oversight organizations to push for accelerated interconnection timelines, reduced cost and more solar friendly policy
  • Synthesize initial utility interconnection requirements, submit interconnection applications and manage their progression through the entire utility process in various utilities for multiple projects at differing stages of development
  • Provide regular interconnection status and utility process updates cross functionally to accurately set expectations regarding interconnection with continual focus on solutions and process improvement
  • Creatively solve interconnection challenges by coordinating externally including with other solar developers, industry associations, and regulatory agencies
  • Establish strong working relationships with utilities, ISO's and industry representatives by meeting in person to champion SunPower's position

RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements -

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with capability of adjusting communication style for interactions with utilities, customers and other stakeholders
  • Passionate drive and work ethic with a growth mindset able to rapidly adapt in a fluid business landscape to solve complex problems
  • Capacity to interpret electrical single lines, site plans and equipment layouts
  • Aptitude balancing and prioritizing competing interests
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time to meet with utilities and other interconnection stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college plus 2 years of applicable experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Preferred requirements

  • Familiarity with renewable energy electric industry, utilities and policy.
  • Knowledge of generation interconnection process and tariffs.
