Job Description

The focus for this position will be on the design, development and implementation of complex control solutions for some of the leading companies in the life sciences, food, and other manufacturing industries. As a Senior Automation engineer, you will apply your diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related fields, making decisions regarding engineering complexities and methods. These applications require the use of advanced techniques, modifications and extension of theories, concepts, and practices. Your responsibilities will include consulting with project and discipline management concerning project design execution. Other specific duties and responsibilities are listed below.


• Provide Automation Engineering services specifically based on the Siemens Simatic platform for complex Process and Mechanical systems required for our targeted industries.

•Design, configuration and implementation of DCS, PLCs, HMIs, Network servers, switches. Knowledge of Virtualization and Thin Client technology is a plus

•Perform work within budget and schedule parameters and provide appropriate feedback to project manager for workload, schedule, and cost management.
• Interface with I&C, Process, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers/designers, construction supervisors, and vendors.
• Interface with Project Managers and develop scopes, schedules and budgets. Be able to work to scope and create scope changes as required.
• Facilitate coordination meetings with the Process, Mechanical, and Electrical project team members to ensure the identification, design and integration of all control system strategies.

• Mentor less experienced coworkers on technical or project execution elements.

• Provide proactive input and solutions to the engineering organization for continuous improvement of the organization.

• Assist in the development of creating automation platform standards - modules, libraries, graphics etc.
• Implement established developed control scheme based on client requirements
• Perform necessary duties for commissioning network communications to processors and periphery devices
• Perform duties to establish functional and stress testing of developed code
• Identify failure modes and corrective actions for reliability and recovery modes
• Perform and/or facilitate on-site start up and training activities.

• Support management with customer/business development and identifying new opportunities with existing customers

• Support management in cost of work estimates and drafting of proposals



Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical or related technical discipline; Bachelor degree preferred


Previous life science, food, pharma manufacturing project experience preferred
• Siemens Simatic products experience required
• Minimum seven (7) years of experience involving software development and testing for process controls and related automation applications required using Siemens Simatic Automation Technology

• Experience in developing/maintaining SCADA servers, including VLAN's, Domain Controllers, Virtual Machines and Active Directory administration.
• Experience developing User Requirement Specifications, Functional Specifications, Sequence of Operations
• Experience developing the automation design from P&ID's, URS's, FS's
• Experience developing/designing Control System Architectures
• Process and/or Facility Systems (Simatic PCS 7)
• Performing ACO, ICO, IQ, OQ, and PQ as part of a Pharmaceutical Validation process
• Must be willing to travel to manufacturing/customer site
• Commissioning and startup control system in field required
• Industrial Automation Systems solutions with experience in:
• Simatic TIA Portal Engineering environment
• SCADA (WinCC Professional) and Ethernet
• Field HMI (WinCC Basic and Advanced)
• Profibus and ProfiNet
• Sinamics Drives systems (G120 and S120)
• Step 7 Classic
