The Health System Physical Plant at the University of Virginia is seeking an experienced Senior Plumber Steamfitter to join their Zone 1 team. The Senior Plumber Steamfitter supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, efficient, and reliable maintenance and service to the Health System. The incumbent performs a wide variety of skilled repair, installation, and maintenance tasks, which can include plumbing fixtures, and related equipment while providing technical guidance and leading other skilled and semi-skilled workers.

Duties Include:

  • Diagnose plumbing problems and perform repairs as required. Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair the systems as necessary.
  • Lay-out piping systems; install proper hangers and support systems. Install pipefitting in compliance with applicable codes and construction documents.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes.
  • Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems.
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment and personal protective equipment are used.
  • Assist supervisor in coordinating daily assignments.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience
  • Licensure: Journey or Master level plumbing license required. A valid Driver's license with a positive points balance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Experience working in a health system environment is preferred.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00 per hour ($52,000 - $60,320 per year). New hires to the University of VIrginia are eligible for a $2,500.00 sign on bonus.

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position. A completed Health Screen will also be required for this position prior to the start date.

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.

COVID Vaccination Requirement
