Key Accountabilities

The Manager/Sr. Manager, Commodity Risk Management, is responsible for commodity, economic, and quantitative research and analysis to support the commodity strategy and risk management operations for ARYZTA. Accountabilities include the development and execution of strategic risk management programs in support of business plans for the underlying commodities used in the procurement of ingredients and energy consumption. This position is strategically important to delivering Procurement's cost of goods budgets within stated annual goals and objectives, and is critical to the price stability of finished foods.


  • Support the business units by assessing potential commodity market price impacts through fundamental, technical, and macro-economic analysis.
  • Regularly review impacts of economic, trade flow, and commodity movements, assessing trends and providing insight to the broader Procurement team and business partners on underlying cost drivers.
  • Develop commodity reports to monitor market dynamics and make coverage recommendations to optimize value in commodity markets.
  • Define and assess price risk and exposure for several commodity categories.
  • Construct and execute appropriate hedge strategies and positions to manage risk, minimize cost, and provide potential financial benefit.
  • Participate in monthly Commodity Price Risk Management Committee, communicating and gaining consensus for strategic hedging initiatives with the key Executive Leadership team members, including CFO and VP of Procurement.
  • Responsible for system and database development and the maintenance of audit traceable transaction records used in executing commodity trades.
  • Present and publish market views on variety of markets to strategic category managers, procurement leadership, business unit leaders, and external customers.
  • Engage with customers through regular commodity updates and business reviews, providing hedge support as required.
  • Training and coaching team members is necessary for performance of duties and responsibilities.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree with a strong preference for Master's degree in Finance, Business, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Engineering, or similar.
  • Minimum 3 years of managerial or professional work experience in the area of commodities trading or hedging.
  • 3 years of experience in applied research or modeling, and/or understanding and application of econometric techniques.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge and experience of commodity hedging within food and agriculture, energy, or related industries.
  • Advanced knowledge in energy, ags, softs, metals, or other commodity markets is a plus.
