TranSystems's Schaumburg, IL office seeks a Senior Civil/Transportation Engineer/Project Manager to join our growing office of roadway, highway, structural, transit, rail, and intermodal designers and construction inspectors as a roadway/highway Project Manager on Phase I and Phase II projects.

The person will be a member of our highway division and will sell, lead, and manage projects that involve various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and other related tasks. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specifications are recommended. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects. The engineer will have the opportunity to manage and lead challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.

The candidate will manage other engineers and technicians to achieve completion of various tasks, as directed by the team leader and will also complete certain tasks independently. Microstation, Geopak, and MS Office and other design software will be used.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum 10 years of related, in-field experience, including work directly or as a consultant for the Illinois Tollway, Illinois DOT, Chicago DOT, Cook County Department of Transportation & Highways, local counties and municipalities, and with Federally-funded projects is expected.
  • Candidates must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Previous experience as a Project Manager leading projects and serving clients is expected.
  • Previous highway, drainage, construction inspection, track, traffic signal, and/or lighting experience is expected.
  • Individuals will be expected to possess an Illinois PE license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural engineering

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provides direction to Project Engineers and Staff Engineers as to the general results expected.
  2. Provides technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  3. Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.
  4. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and routinely represents the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
  5. Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  6. Reviews design options and document findings from the design team.
  7. Oversees project database; entering and backing up data. A good understanding of Microstation and Geopak is preferred.
  8. Manages workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  9. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
