The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology-Oncology is currently accepting applications for a full time, Nurse Practitioner.

This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Job Summary: Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in the area of benign hematology with a primary focus in sickle cell. The individual will oversee red cell exchange & blood transfusions; round on patients and assist with discharge; provide patient/family education; and will be expected to participate in teaching activities for students, residents and fellows.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of hematology patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems.
  • Establish medical diagnoses.
  • Oversee treatment infusions and supportive care needs.
  • Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice.
  • Provide appropriate direction to clinic staff regarding patient care issues.
  • Communicate effectively with referring and primary healthcare providers.
  • Manage independent and shared outpatient clinical practice and coverage for collaborating physicians.
  • Maintain clinical documentation according to practice.
  • Participate in hematology specific clinical, quality and research projects.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, wellness care, and survivorship plans.
  • Participate in learning opportunities for nursing, medical students, and fellows.
  • May participate in consultation call responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current/valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio with prescriptive authority prior to start
  • A Master s degree in nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program
  • At least three (3) years nursing experience

Ideal Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience working and treating patients with hematologic related health issues
  • Comfortable with conducting shared medical appointments
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting in front of large groups
  • Individual should enjoy being part of multi-disciplinary team
