INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT: The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Legal Affairs (OAG) is a pre-eminent, constitutional office, which serves as the chief lawyer to all state agencies and provides legal protections for Floridians against fraud through the enforcement of the state's laws. The OAG is a cabinet agency in the executive branch of Florida state government.

OAG employees are paid biweekly. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113, Fs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school. Admission to the bar, and membership in good standing, of at least one state. Two years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings.

JOB SUMMARY: The Florida Solicitor General's Office is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Solicitor General. The Office of the Solicitor General represents the State of Florida in the U.S. Supreme Court and the Florida Supreme Court, litigates cases of exceptional public importance in federal and state appellate and trial courts, supervises appellate litigation in cases to which the State is a party, provides legal advice and policy guidance to the Attorney General, and coordinates the State's amicus practice as well as its involvement in multistate litigation. Assistant Solicitors General will assist the Solicitor General and the Deputy Solicitors General with all aspects of the work of the Office. Accordingly, they will have the opportunity to regularly work on high-profile cases, including constitutional challenges to significant state statutes, in the U.S. Supreme Court, the Florida Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and lower state and federal trial and appellate courts. In addition, Assistants will routinely brief and argue complex legal issues, interact with the State's leading lawyers and policymakers, and collaborate with top appellate attorneys serving in private practice, other states, and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Applicants for the position of Assistant Solicitor General should have excellent written and oral advocacy skills, outstanding academic credentials, and at least two years of legal experience. A clerkship on a federal appellate court or the Florida Supreme Court is highly desirable, as is demonstrated proficiency in the areas of appellate and constitutional litigation.

If selected, an applicant who is not already a member of the Florida bar must gain such admission within one year of the date of appointment. All new hires are required to make a two-year commitment to the Office.
