This Agency Compliance Engineer is responsible for providing agency compliance technical leadership to commercial HVAC products. This role will successfully guide and support the development and release to market of multiple HVAC products that comply with UL and other governing bodies' standards and codes. This role is expected to be intimately familiar with emerging UL and other agencies compliance engineering practices and standards and be cutting-edge regarding compliance and networked in the external professional community.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
  • Working knowledge of Trane Commercial Chillers, Rooftops and Air Handler products.
  • Collaborate with product development functional team leads from electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering to ensure compliance in final designs.
  • Develop laboratory test plans and analyze test data for required UL standards and CE qualification tests.
  • Prepare and submit UL compliance test reports.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with safety and regulatory agencies and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL).
  • Generate technical requirements for product development based on regulatory and certification standards.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders and manage requirements and schedules for the product development projects.
  • Perform risk management activities such as FMEA.
  • Support internal and external agency audits as required.
  • Remain current on relevant standards to support product compliance testing for both new and existing products.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent discipline) and at least 2 years of product development work experience is required.

Key Competencies:
  • Knowledge of appropriate product safety and design standards is required including but not limited to UL/CSA 1995, UL508, UL508A, UL 60335-2-40, National Electric Code, ANSI Z21.47, ASHRAE 90.1, CE, etc.
  • Past experience with product development and demonstrated successful certification of a product.
  • Strong cross-functional analytical and technical skills in order to interpret and guide design requirements based on UL standards.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
