Decision Support Analyst

This is a multi-level position, Decision Support Analyst, Strategic Decision Analyst, and Sr. Strategic Decision Analyst, with level placement dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful candidate. GL 26, 27, 28

Summary :

Provide ER&T Portfolio Managers, Traders and Marketers the decision support required through information, analytics, models/tools and systems to optimize long-term portfolio value and minimize risk.

Responsibilities :

  • Design new portfolio tools to provide the information that Portfolio Managers, Traders and Marketers need to manage risk and create value or better decision-making. Develop/procure and implement sophisticated analytical tools and models. Identify profitable trading opportunities and/or monitor/analyze the risk and/or financial value of ER&T's portfolios. Apply algorithms such as statistical analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and scenario modeling.
  • Provide Portfolio Managers and Traders new insights or processes that lead to the creation or better management of long-term portfolio value. Develop and perform scenario/stress analyses of generation/hedge portfolios. Analyze generation and hedge positions to support and recommend long-term strategic decisions. Optimize long-term portfolio value using physical and financial trading instruments such as options, futures, swaps and other derivatives.
  • Analyze, model and value generators, hedges, trades and marketing deals as per business needs. Utilize and modify, if necessary, Portfolio tools such as PowerNet and PowerVision to value generators and hedges. Model and properly value complex deals in Aligne (ER&T's deal capture system) Assist Traders with deal entry into Aligne, as required. Explain assumptions, methodology and results to clients.
  • Develop and monitor portfolio positions/value. Perform End-Of-Day process to provide portfolio performance metrics and forward prices. Ensure accuracy of data and model assumptions. Explain significant metric drivers and variances.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytical support to Portfolio Managers and Traders. Develop, perform and explain analyses. More complex analysis may also require ability to write and apply R or VBA programming code. Coordinate efforts with other groups, as necessary to obtain information and achieve desired results.
  • Ensure proper deal capture and valuation by leveraging business knowledge and modeling expertise to lead team effort to take full advantage of powerful and comprehensive Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) systems. Demonstrate proficiency in use and understanding of the various trading systems under Decision Support responsibility. Must respond quickly to new model and system requirements (market set-up, formula pricing, deal type, forward curves, etc.) Responsible for a significant role in testing trading systems upgrades.
  • Provide business knowledge, mathematical and logic algorithms to build in-house ETRM applications/systems in collaboration with the Development Team.
  • Prepare and maintain training and Trading Excellence Model documentation for processes and systems, as necessary.

    Required Competencies:
  • Experience with financial or engineering analysis/modeling.
  • Proficiency in Energy Trading Risk Management systems, preferably SunGard Aligne and GasOps systems.
  • Excellent analysis, communication, innovative, problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
  • Candidate must also possess computer programming skills and knowledge of financial instruments such as options, futures, swaps and other derivatives.

    Basic Qualifications:
    Decision Support Analyst:
    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or the Sciences
    One year or less of trading floor experience

    Strategic Decision Analyst:
    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or the Sciences
    Minimum of 3 years trading floor experience

    Senior Strategic Decision Analyst:
    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or the Sciences
    Minimum of 5 years trading floor experience

    Desired Qualification:
    Master's Degree in finance or quantitative analysis
