Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Campus Enterprises operates with an $80 million annual budget and approximately 2,000 EHRA, SHRA, temporary and student employees combined. The funding sources managed are varied, including state appropriated, student fee, receipt supported and LLC/Foundation accounts.
Within the Campus Enterprises Division, administrative services responsibilities include budget, finance, accounting, purchasing, human resources, marketing and information technology. The group provides vision, leadership and exemplary management of these functional support areas for the division's customer service operations, for the division as a whole and as a component of the Office of Finance and Administration.
Essential Job Duties
Reporting to the associate vice chancellor for Campus Enterprises, this senior leadership role has managerial responsibility over the directors and managers in the areas of budget, finance, accounting, purchasing, human resources, marketing and information technology in the Campus Enterprises Division. The position ensures exemplary support to Campus Enterprises retail and hospitality operations, and has a central role in aligning the division's activities with CE's mission, vision and strategic plans as applicable at all levels of the division and university.
Primary duties of the Sr. Director of Administrative services include, but are not limited to the following
Driving collaborative decision making across administrative functional areas, and building cohesion between administrative services functions, within the division and with campus and external partners.
Organizationeling the division's mission and values, instilling the division's mission and values among employees, and fostering a positive and cohesive workplace and congeniality among co-workers.
With primary direction from the associate vice chancellor for Campus Enterprises, supporting the development of the division's strategic plan.
Working jointly with directors to develop and implement division-wide strategic initiatives. Assisting directors and/or managers with overcoming barriers to success, and Organizationifies plans and operations as necessary.
The senior director of administrative service is the division's compliance officer ensuring that all administrative services functional areas comply with university, UNC system, state and federal regulations and policies.
Formulating and enforcing division policies and standard operating protocols; and facilitating all corrective actions and resolution of all internal and independent, audit activities as applicable. The position further assists the division to identify opportunities for improved practices.
Responsible for the comprehensive development and administration of the division's operational and capital budgets and financial reporting necessary for effective management and institutional decision making. Such budgeting, financial reporting and analysis shall be tailored to the specific needs of campus enterprises departments and to the overall reporting, information and analyses as deemed necessary by the associate vice chancellor of Campus Enterprises, the associate vice chancellor of Financial Services (treasurer), the associate vice chancellor of the University Budget Office. Further, utilizing all areas reporting to the position, the senior director will oversee the preparation of other business assessments, statistical analyses and business forecasting as requested and/or deemed valuable by the senior director, AVC of Campus Enterprises and senior leadership.
Supporting the division's Human Resources Manager in all aspects of the employment cycle from staffing needs assessment to recruiting, through employee training and development through succession planning and organizational restructuring as needed. Providing support and connection of information technology and other areas of administrative services with HR for ongoing strategic assessment and improvement processes across the division's staffing.
Providing for the discovery and adoption of technology solutions to support Campus Enterprises' operations. Fostering continual process improvement and efficient utilization of technology. Ensuring compliance with campus wide information technology policies and standards.
Fostering a culture of the highest integrity and best procurement practices, cultivating the purchasing function to ensure best value in the procurement of all goods and services for the division. The administrative services procurement function serves as a central support mechanism for a complex and diverse set of department purchasing needs, ensuring bid processes and resulting contracts satisfy specifications and are evaluated and approved properly.
Ensuring effective communications to all internal and external departments, partners, customers and other stakeholders of all administrative services activities as applicable. This would, for example, include communications by HR regarding employee performance reviews or from budget and finance on budget development, or from marketing on new meal plan options etc.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Additional duties of the Sr. Director of Administrative Services include, but are not limited to the following
Reviewing organizational structure for greatest efficiency of services to the auxiliary and hospitality areas. Provides for business continuity and transparency within administrative services.
Managing, coaching, and guiding department directors to foster continual improvement, and a spirit of innovation and service in fulfillment of the division's and university's mission and strategic plans.
Preparing and/or utilizing sophisticated reports, studies and other data analyses to make informed decisions on operational matters or in response to requests for information.
Building collaborative working relationships with departments, offices and vendors across all areas of responsibility. Encouraging and supporting internal collaboration among employees and team building.
Participating on university committees as appropriate to champion for the division.
Minimum Education/Experience
Requires a relevant post-baccalaureate degree with a minimum of five (5) years or greater of related professional experience; or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of ten (10) years or greater of progressive experience leading business/administrative services in industry, higher education or government may be sCompanytituted for the advanced degree.
Prior experience managing operational areas in Higher Education or other public sector.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Preference will be given to candidates who also have extensive senior leadership and strategic management experience, as well as a technical background and understanding of complex organizations.
Successful candidates should have strong financial and information technology experience; with working knowledge of marketing, human resources, purchasing, and facilities.
Familiarity of auxiliary, dining, and retail services. Preference will be given to candidates with self-operating auxiliary experience
