The Facebook Reality Labs team is looking for a system level Electrical Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team that is developing systems that are used to enable immersive augmented reality experiences. You will own electrical design of core system electronics from prototype to production working across technical disciplines to realize product specifications. You should have deep experience with complex PCBA development integrating processors, cameras, sensors, power regulation, and storage technologies. You should be comfortable designing high-speed digital circuit boards, be experienced troubleshooting at the board and system level, and be familiar with standard product development processes.

Lead Electrical Engineer Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems that integrate cameras, inertial & depth sensors, compute, storage and communication interfaces.

  • Own PCB schematic integrating work of multiple design engineers and direct board layout.

  • Optimize electrical architecture and circuits for performance, power/signal integrity, and battery life.

  • Specify, evaluate, define and select key electrical components. Develop relationships with technology vendors and partners impacting roadmaps and driving custom solutions.

  • Partner with Mechanical, Firmware & Software Engineers to create system specifications and develop commercial hardware systems.

  • Drive resolution of technical issues working with cross-functional engineering, verification, and production teams.

  • Analyze, validate, and characterize electrical design.

  • Support product development in concept, design, evaluation, production, and post-launch phases.

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 7+ years of experience developing electrical hardware systems along with a BS in Electrical, Computer, or a related Engineering degree or equivalent experience.

    • Experience with schematic design and PCB layout & constraint management using Cadence Capture CIS and Allegro or equivalent EDA tools.

    • Experience with multiple of the following: SoC/SoM based system design, power systems (DC/DC converters & system power management), Microcontroller based designs, and FPGA system integration.

    • Experience with PCB layout principles, including signal & power integrity, HDI design experience, DC power converter layout, desense/EMI mitigation, and DFM optimization.

    • Experience with system level debug with experience rooting cause issues spanning software, firmware and hardware.

    • Experience using oscilloscopes, logic/protocol/power analyzers, and other high-speed digital test equipment for system validation and troubleshooting.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience with design with multiple technologies: PCIe, SuperSpeed USB, UFS(MIPI M-PHY), MIPI C-PHY/D-PHY, and 1G/2.5G/5G/10G Ethernet MAC/PHY interfaces.

      • Experience working with Signal & Power Integrity Engineers to simulate critical nets and validate PDN impedances.

      • Experience optimizing HDI PCB stackups/via structures and setting physical/electrical constraints for synchronous and Embedded clock busses.

      • Experience modelling and verifying system and subsystem power consumption and compliance with thermal budgets.

      • Experience with EMI & RF desense sources along with board level and layout mitigation strategies.

      • Experience with capabilities and system integration of NVidia Jetson Embedded compute modules.

      • Experience with Linux power management capabilities and underlying SoC and system hardware dependencies.

      • Experience with C, C++, Python and/or other Scripting tools.
