POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for supervising a staff of 20 - 25 professional accountants to ensure transactions as well as management reports are recorded and analyzed in a timely, accurate manner and in accordance with company policies. Responsibilities include all aspects of the monthly accounting close in addition to accurate company-wide reporting as it pertains to internal financials, management reporting, and operational reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Ensures transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed and supported in accordance with company policies, generally accepted accounting principles and SOX controls.
  • Review and approve monthly estimates, monthly account reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly variance results.
  • Review and ensure timeliness and accuracy of monthly and departmental management reports presentation and review by senior management and department heads.
  • Responsible for yearly, quarterly, and monthly flux analysis and reporting.
  • Answers and resolves internal and external customer inquiries, including audit inquiries from external auditors, Internal Auditing, and government agencies.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate controls, SOX processes, and policies for respective areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure internal financial statements are prepared accurately and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Proactively monitor effectiveness of controls and continually look for enhancements.
  • Understands the full-range of the applicable accounting systems, SAP, STAR, Blackline.
  • Read, interpret and develop a thorough understanding of various complex agreements.
  • Review designated accounting policies, standards, and procedures, at a minimum, annually to assure they appropriately reflect any changes in the GAAP guidance and the current control environment
  • Applies experience, knowledge, analytical skills, and leadership skills to solve issues, establish efficient accounting processes/procedures and controls, and work prioritization.
  • Works with other business unit accounting departments to ensure effective communication, consistency, and use of best practices.
  • Actively participates in the development and coaching of staff members to provide appropriate advancement opportunities.
  • Position has 4 direct reports (total team size 20-25).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in accounting, CPA preferred.
  • 8 to 10 years of accounting experience with 4 to 6 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Oil and gas industry experience preferred.
  • SAP system experience preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound decision making skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Advanced in use of Excel and Word and have the aptitude to effectively learn company-specific accounting systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible to work overtime during peak periods in order to meet monthly deadlines.
