ICW Group is seeking an IT Director to oversee our Core Insurance Solutions . This role is responsible for the portfolio of applications that support our core insurance stream and transactions. The purpose of this job is to oversee the streamlined operation of the Information Technology (IT) department and ensure the alignment with the business objectives of the organization. The position exists to sustain the financial growth of the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.

  • Develops, implements, and manages company strategies and application portfolios for area of responsibility.
  • Plans, coordinates, directs, and designs all operational activities within responsible domain, as well as provides direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations.
  • Works closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
  • Oversees technical projects in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Works in collaboration with IT leaders to develop and implement IT strategies that support organizational objectives and drive operational efficiency within area of responsibility.

Provides day-to-day operational leadership to multiple divisions.

  • Defines and communicates project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff, and end users.
  • Develops and reviews budgets for and from IT department divisions and ensure they comply with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives.
  • Reviews performance of IT systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
  • Benchmarks, analyzes, reports on, and makes recommendations for the improvement of the IT processes, infrastructure, and IT systems.
  • Oversees the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, and support of all hardware and software within responsible portfolio.
  • Supports enterprise PMO in business case development and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Directs research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.
  • Develops and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
  • Oversees negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
  • Establishes and maintains regular written and in-person communications with the organization's executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.

Develops and leads a team of IT Professionals.

  • Provides strategic, tactical, and daily direction to IT team. Communicates Mission, Values, and other organization operating principles to direct and indirect reports.
  • Establishes and maintains the overall work cadence and in partnership with IT Department leadership, ensures performance and outcomes strive for excellence in delivery and customer experience. Ensures that the entire department is engaged and that leadership practices encourage development, recognition, and retention.
  • Establishes and holds managers accountable to and adheres to hiring criteria, on-boarding, and training requirements for incoming staff.
  • Oversees the performance management and development process for the team and performs performance management duties, development planning, and coaching for direct reports.
  • Acts as a resource for Department leaders and team members to answer questions and solve complex problems.
  • Manages Department budget, technology and other resources, workload, and customer requests for Department services. Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures and Compliance responsibilities.
  • Ensures data quality, adherence to IT security guidelines, profitability and other risk-related metrics for self and members of the team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONISBILITIES

Directly supervises 2 or more employees within the IT team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERINCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university: Computer Science, Information Systems or related degree, preferred. Minimum 15 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 10 years of related experience managing and/or directing an IT operation.

SPECIFIC CORE INSURANCE SOLUTIONS DIRECTOR EXPERIENCE

Experience working in the insurance industry or insurance tech domain with components such as underwriting, claims, and billing technology solutions. Experience interfacing with line of business heads including business and finance. Experience working for an InsureTech company or insurance carrier. Worker's Compensation, commercial multi-peril, property and casualty insurance experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations. Proven experience in IT strategic planning and development, project management, and policy development. Extensive knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook. Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network and operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards. Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Must be able to apply a "right-sized" solution to technology and business problems faced by a fast-growing mid-size P&C carrier. Must have the ability to quickly and professionally put together solutions to complex topics in PowerPoint presentations for Executive management and/or direct staff. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Must be able to read, write and speak effectively. Ability to effectively organize and present information to all levels of audiences, both internal and external.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee may need to sit in front of a computer for a period of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally need to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
