Roll up your sleeves and get important work done everyday. Shippo Engineering is passionate about our users and building best in class products to help them succeed. As a Front End Engineer you will help lead and build our next generation shipping application enabling e-retailers to streamline their shipping logistics. As a member of the engineering team, you will work jointly with the design and product teams to create beautiful, interactive, and responsive web interfaces utilizing a modern tech stack (React + Redux with TypeScript). You will lead in the implementation of the user interfaces, developing new pages end-to-end on your own or assisting and working with other team members in the implementation.
  • Collaborate with design and product teams to build beautiful, elegant, fast web interfaces for our users
  • Create rapid prototypes of design concepts, and iterate quickly
  • Architect UI layer to maximize design and code reuse
  • Implement, test, and deploy new pages and features
  • Lead in the implementation of a UI testing framework and tests
  • Keep up-to-date with high performance best practices, conduct performance tests regularly, and optimize web pages continuously
  • Keep abreast of and evangelize the adoption of developments in HTML, CSS, and JS
  • Participate in design reviews for new features, products, and systems
  • Mentor other team members and grow UI competencies in the engineering team
  • Provide feedback to improve the usability of the product and reduce the complexity of the user interface
  • 3+ years of experience building customer-facing single-page applications, preferably using React + Redux
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Experience creating responsive web experiences leveraging browser and device capabilities, making use of emerging tools and best practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, including distributed systems
  • Awareness of cross-browser compatibility issues and client-side performance considerations
  • Demonstrated design and UX sensibilities
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates and AJAX
  • Interest in and understanding of security practices and test automation
  • Familiarity with server-side programming languages (Go, Python, Scala, Java, or Ruby), modern JS frameworks (React, Angular. js or Ember. js), and JavaScript charting frameworks (HighCharts or D3)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate with non-technical team members
  • Deep understanding of customer needs and passion for customer success
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
