Roku streaming players and Roku TV models are available around the world through direct retail sales and licensing arrangements with TV brands and pay TV operators.

The Role and Responsibilities

Roku, Inc. is seeking an experienced and self-motivated attorney to support Roku's International Expansion business team. In this role, you will:

Provide legal counsel on a broad range of international commercial and regulatory matters, including consumer protection, privacy and data protection laws and regulations, to ensure that Roku follows applicable legal and regulatory requirements, as well as industry best practices.
Support international product launches in the EMEA, LATAM, Canada and other countries.
Structure, draft and negotiate technology transactions affecting Roku's business, including but not limited to software and technology licenses, development agreements, Software as a Service (SaaS) agreements, and manufacturing, supply, distribution and sale agreements.
Work with local counsels to develop practical solutions to regulatory challenges in multiple jurisdictions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with a wide variety of Roku business units, including the engineering, billing, finance, tax and customer support teams.
Work closely with other members of the legal team to address the company's compliance obligations.
Help develop scalable processes to manage international expansion and allow the business the flexibility necessary to move quickly.

The successful candidate must have experience supporting international consumer product launches and a demonstrated ability to translate legal requirements into actionable advice. You must have hands-on project management experience, the ability to manage a large number of mission-critical projects, keen analytical abilities and excellent judgment, a pragmatic approach to problem solving, flexibility to adapt and thrive in an environment that is constantly changing, and the ability to make smart decisions in the face of ambiguity and imperfect information. The role requires an entrepreneurial mindset that enables you to work independently. This is an amazing opportunity to play a key role in supporting the company's rapid growth.

Specific background should include:

At least 10 years of legal experience, with a significant portion of it working in a product counseling role for a consumer-facing technology company.
Significant experience analyzing and synthesizing laws across multiple countries.
Deep knowledge of marketing law, including familiarity with FTC guidance, CAN-SPAM, and a proven ability to quickly learn new areas of law.
Significant experience advising on data privacy, data protection and the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space.
A passion for technology and ability to understand complex technology and product use cases quickly.
Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctorate degree from a U.S. accredited law school.
Licensed to practice law in the State of California.
Strong preference for academic degree in a STEM discipline, particularly in software or computer engineering.
