Kimley-Horn has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Planner or Engineer to join our San Jose, CA office!The selected candidate will work with our Transportation Planning group to work on a variety of Transportation Planning work.
We are looking for a Planner or Engineer who is a relationship-oriented communicator, proactive problem solver, good listener, and excited about transit. The primary focus areas/skills needed are described below:
  • Collaborate with various departments (Real Estate, Engineering, Planning, Environmental, and Outreach) to gather input, synthesize data, organize information, prepare memos and staff reports.
  • Prepare for external agency meetings coordinating schedules, preparing agendas and presentations, coordinating graphics, technical information, and collateral. Attending meetings, tracking milestones, and managing follow up items.
  • Support station planning efforts including assisting the management of technical stakeholders groups (cities, other transit agencies, universities, and businesses). Developing presentation materials, figures, memos, and communicating technical information.
  • Assist with project management reviewing invoices, managing progress reports, preparing scopes, and tracking budgets.
  • Conduct project outreach including preparing fact sheets, drafting website text, meeting with community members, businesses, and organizations to explain the project scope, impacts, benefits, mitigations, and other technical elements.
  • Manage Community Working Group meetings coordinating guest speakers; facilitating bi-weekly planning meetings; preparing meeting materials including agendas, presentations and handouts; coordinating graphics, technical information, and collateral; coordinating with Web Master to get materials on the website.
  • 3 or more years of transportation engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Synchro, Excel, Sidra and GIS
  • Technical skills in transportation planning
  • Experience communicating and working with clients
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Outgoing, self-motivated team player
  • Ability to work with and balance priorities among multiple projects and project managers, as well as providing direction to entry-level Engineer in Training Analysts
