Job description:
    • Identify, assess, and handle sources for data, and data sets, to meet the verification and validation needs of the Jupiter team
    • Acquire and manage data sets, with activities including but not limited to: transferring to the cloud, subsetting, extract and transformation, organizing data structures to meet Jupiter specifications
    • Ability to assist with metadata requirements, collection and applied usage patterns
    • Develop and apply software to verify and validate various model output
    • Characterize and plot performance statistics
    • Quantitatively analyze results
    • Report results to scientific leadership
    • Work with technical staff to successfully execute V&V components in a DevOps environment
    • Implement prototype software and modeling solutions using container tools at scale
    • Unit Test and validate technical implementations
    • Assist in the design and methodologies to execute across single or vast data sets
    • Support scientific evaluation of model components and systems in R&D phases
    • Work in a team environment to compute, summarize, and present results from research and development activities
    • Contribute to planning data needs to meet V&V strategies
    • Additional desirable skills:
    • Working knowledge of software containers, and most specifically DockerWorking skill of GIS software, and especially open source, such as QGIS.
    • Experience with current-generation ocean and/or atmospheric models
    • Travel Requirements
      : Limited travel may be required
    • Minimum qualifications include:
    • Experience analyzing various sources and formats of geophysical data
    • Strong abilities in PythonExperience with modern code management environments such as GitWorking experience with geophysical data, and general knowledge of its characteristicsFamiliarity with multidimensional data (netCDF, Shape files etc)
    • Expertise in using graphical libraries in python
    • Hands on experience with with data pipelines
    • Expertise in verification and assertion tools and libraries in python
    • Proven ability to automate verification and external validations
    • Hands-on experience with instrumenting models for verification and validation
    • Basic knowledge of probability and statistics
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and with other team members with different scientific and technical backgrounds
    • Additional desirable skills:
    • Working knowledge of software containers, and most specifically DockerWorking skill of GIS software, and especially open source, such as QGIS
    • Experience with current-generation ocean and/or atmospheric modelsExperience in working on one or more commercial cloud computing services
    • Requirements:
    • M. S. from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering field
    • 3-5 years experience demonstrating the qualifications for the position
