Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

This position is located within the Strategy, Technology and Support (STS) group under Gas System Operations (GSO). The planning arm of GSO, which STS is a part of, is responsible for providing hydraulic analysis, operational support, and system engineering for PG&E s backbone, transmission, and distribution systems.
• GSO s plans drive PG&E s gas system investments, design, and operations to deliver gas to PG&E s customers without operational incidents.
• GSO is recognized for its expert knowledge of PG&E s gas system operations and hydraulics and is seen as a leader in the use of powerful, innovative, and efficient analytical tools and processes to enable system planning.
• GSO promotes and employs decision-making that is logical, rigorous, risk-analysis based, takes into account diverse perspectives, and is recognized for its use of operational best practices.
• STS identifies, develops and delivers processes, technology, tools, training and support to GSO, enabling the department to ensure sufficient system capacity for safety, reliability and affordability.

*Occasional travel to company facilities and offices, field locations, sites, and/or stations.

Position Summary

This position will work with the STS team in developing strategic tools and software applications that improve internal processes for system planning in Gas System Operations.

Focus will be on process efficiency, development and delivery of training and support, and forward-facing strategy; this may sometimes include database management, visual basic coding, data analysis, software tool development, documentation development (eg job-aids), or similar activities.

As a team member of STS at the Senior level, both your expertise and leadership in analytical-engineering and communication/teamwork will be brought to bear on long-term projects and direct support for Planning Engineers. Examples of work include leading cross-functional groups to address Planning needs, creating or maintaining Planning tools using Visual Basic, developing and delivering training for existing or new processes, and analyzing customer usage data for demand forecasting.

Job Responsibilities

• Safety: Incorporate safety into work practices. Ensure new processes and improvements provide the planning engineers with the ability to respond quickly and accurately to operational events.
• Reliability: Develop and support processes and technology to enable consistent planning and accuracy across Local Transmission and Distribution.
• Affordability: Reduce operational cost by streamlining tools surrounding hydraulic analysis and eliminating redundant or inefficient work.
• Customer: Be responsive to the support needs of local transmission and distribution engineers. Meet tight deadlines and deliverables.
• People: Provide mentorship, training, technical oversight and quality review of technical work to ensure accurate, efficient, and high quality work tools and processes. Lead collaboration and teamwork within and without the department to further the cause of Gas System Planning.



• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering
• Valid Driver's license
• Three (3 years) relevant experience

• Ability to travel

• Pipeline Simulation Engineering experience (Synergi or equivalent)
• Knowledge and understanding of gas system engineering and operations.
• Knowledge, understanding, and application of gas engineering practices and methodologies.
• Database technology and application development skills.
• Proficiency with engineering information systems and applications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).
• Experience or proficiency working with S.A.S., C#, Java, VB.Net
• Leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Public speaking and professional testimony skills.
• Analytical, strategic and logical reasoning skills.
• Knowledge and experience with fluid mechanics.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) certification
• Professional Engineering (PE) license
