Job Responsibilities

The Seattle IT DEI Program Strategic Advisor 1 is a new Full time position serving as a member of the DEI/RSJI Team for the implementation of Seattle IT's department wide DEI/RSJI strategy and ensuring its impact integrity. This position will report to the DEI/RSJI Strategic Advisor II and will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of Seattle IT's DEI/RSJI Program. They will assist in developing a comprehensive program that ensures city-wide RSJI principles are incorporated into all aspects of the employee and customer experiences. This position will leverage processes, tools, and guidelines to carry out their responsibilities to drive diversity and inclusion in the workplace and with our customers.

The DEI/RSJI Program Strategic Advisor 1, will assist in implementing the Seattle IT DEI/RSJI Program. The DEI/RSJI Program Strategic Advisor 1, will assist in implementing DEI/RSJI strategies. The position also assists in conducting service and workforce equity studies and coordinates the DEI/RSJI events and training curriculum. The DEI/RSJI Program Strategic Advisor 1 will assist in preparation of Seattle IT's annual detailed, analytical, statistical, and narrative report.

The DEI/RSJI Program Strategic Advisor 1 will assist in the RFP development, contract development, and Statement of Work (SOW) development as needed for the acquisition of training and other DEI/RSJI-related services, managing the related contracts and budgets. The DEI/RSJI Program Strategic Advisor 1 will assist in collaborating with the external consulting teams that perform the facilitation, training, and other DEI/RSJI services on behalf of Seattle IT. This individual will work with the DEI/RSJI Change Team and Seattle IT Human Resources Department. The DEI/RSJI Program Strategic Advisor 1 will collaborate with Seattle's Office of Civil Rights and other cross-departmental and City-wide RSJI projects and working groups, as appropriate and directed.

Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for the recruitment qualifications.

  • Bachelor's Degree in public administration, social services, American studies, or closely related field.
  • Two+ years' experience developing and/or implementing equal opportunity and race and social justice programs that address barriers to equity and inclusion and increase the utilization of WMBE and social responsibility programming.
  • Experience with equity and inclusion program design and implementation, developing and delivering equity training, utilization of equity tools, and applying an equity lens to organizations.
  • Experience managing an equity program or projects.

Note: Employment contingent upon successful completion of comprehensive background investigation in compliance with Seattle's Fair Change Employment Ordinance SMC 14.17. Background investigation may include CJIS certification conducted under the purview of Seattle Police Department.

You will be successful in this position if you have:

  • Two+ years' significant people leadership/management experience and skills.
  • Two+ years' experience developing and/or implementing equity and inclusion programs (internal and external) and/or RSJI change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment while considering varied perspectives.
  • Ability to gather data from data systems, analyze data and develop reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with and increasing utilization of WMBE businesses.
  • Experience in meeting facilitation or group mediation.
  • Strong creative problem-solving, negotiation, and facilitation skills, and the ability to work collaboratively, and be self-directed.
  • Skill in synthesizing information and making recommendations within and outside of established policies and procedures.
  • Skills discussing and addressing issues regarding race, class, and privilege.
  • Completion of multiple diversity, equity, inclusion, race, and privilege related training classes or programs.
  • Project or program management experience.
  • Excellent cross-cultural oral and written communications skills.
  • Experience developing and/or delivering diversity, equity and inclusion and/or race and social justice training.
  • Experience planning and implementing events, trainings, and large-scale projects.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to work across departments to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders, influence others, and manage laterally to outcomes.
  • Experience working in diverse teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices and engagement strategies. Must be able to think strategically and implement locally.

Additional Information
Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in building diversity, equity and inclusion programs and initiatives using systems thinking principles and managing cultural change principles.
  • Experience working in the information technology field.
