The newly created Customer Communications and Marketing Automation Specialist helps to develop and implement marketing automation platform functions for customer lead generation, retention and engagement marketing efforts. Working with the Marketing and Customer Communications Director, this role is responsible for automated marketing support, including Salesforce Marketing Cloud operations. This role includes content development, configuration, QA testing, automation implementation, and post-campaign reporting. This role also helps to coordinate and produce customer communications across channels and platforms, using an integrated marketing communications approach.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the development and implementation of marketing automation platform functions for customer lead generation, retention and engagement marketing efforts
  • Manage the technical and operational side of digital marketing campaigns using SalesForce Marketing Cloud
  • Implement content, configuration, QA testing, automation implementation, and post-campaign reporting
  • Collaborate with business partners and Creative Services to develop and execute customer communications strategies and plans across channels and platforms, including print, digital and video in alignment with brand strategy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop on-brand, automated email marketing messages in support of business goals and objectives
  • Organize and manage multiple email marketing campaigns and project priorities
  • Build and update email marketing communications using HTML or pre-existing templates in SalesForce Marketing Cloud
  • Share email and digital marketing best practices with teammates
  • Uphold and champion visual and verbal identity standards
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business or related field

Required knowledge, skill and abilities
  • Minimum 3 years direct experience in email marketing and marketing automation
  • At least 18-24 months of direct experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud and/or a similar marketing automation platform
  • 2+ years of direct experience with customer experience/customer communications
  • Proficiency writing effective conversion-based email campaign messages
  • Knowledge of and experience with journey mapping highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of HTML and modern programming language preferred
  • Keen attention to detail in planning, organizing and executing a variety of marketing and communications projects, while seeing the big picture and understanding the interdependencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a relentless focus on teamwork and having a positive, caring attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead by example in support of the company's essential characteristics and values: strong ethics and integrity, dedication to a safe work environment, commitment to a diverse workforce that recognizes and respects every individual's unique skills and perspectives
  • All candidates will be required to submit three examples of professional email campaigns they have created and managed, as well as writing samples from previous campaigns

Physical demands, environment and schedule
  • Work is performed in a shared office environment in St. Louis, and this position will work closely with and stay connected to the Communications and Marketing teams in other Spire geographies including Kansas City, Missouri and Alabama.
  • Available to work nights or weekends when needed
  • Up to 25% travel
