The Park Manager actively coordinates with numerous departments, divisions, co-workers, stakeholders, and partners the stewardship and maintenance of Cleveland Metroparks reservations. This includes planning, budgeting, prioritization, cooperation, and communication, for the delivery of quality maintenance practices, natural resource protection, and valuable outdoor education experiences. The manager establishes protocols that ensure patrons have a safe and enjoyable park experience. This is done by leading, developing, and assisting reservation staff and equipping them with the means to consistently exceed operational maintenance standards in accordance with the organization's mission and purpose statements.

Reporting varies between Hinckley, South Chagrin, Mill Stream Run and Brecksville Reservations

  • Effectively supervises assigned employees, including the following:
    • Interviews, selects and trains employees;
    • Coaches employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures;
    • Directs work of employees and sets/adjusts hours of work;
    • Maintains records on employee productivity and appraises employees' productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other changes in status;
    • Handles employee complaints and disciplines employees when necessary;
    • Apportions work among different employees;
    • Monitors or implements legal compliance measures;
    • Determines the type of materials, supplies, or tools to be used by employees and controls the flow and distribution of materials and supplies; and
    • Provides for the safety of employees and the property of Cleveland Metroparks.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected and required. All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Provides appropriate supplies, tools, and equipment to complete maintenance activities in an efficient and thorough manner; in addition to normal maintenance, identifies and develops a list of projects that need completion; checks on crew progress daily to determine needs and ensure timely completion.
  • Provides excellent customer service/external entities: Proactive maintenance of park grounds and facilities; provides a safe, clean, and enjoyable park for the public; responds to adjoining property owner concerns as appropriate (tree removal, etc.); identifies and follows-up on adjoining property owner encroachment issues; responds to patron questions/concerns/comments.
  • Manages budgeting and finances: Prioritizes budget to ensure that supplies, tools, and equipment are available in sufficient quantities to complete maintenance tasks; oversees spending of division budget (vendors, purchase orders, and Procard); reconciles Procard statements (to verify proper expenditures and tax-exempt protocol); reconciles Petrovend (fuel use) and orders fuel as needed; monitors seasonal and overtime spending/budgets to stay within limits; maintains records for internal auditing; completes payroll (twice a month).
  • Oversees Interdepartmental Assistance/Affiliates: Provides safe and clean parks and facilities for various programs to operate; provides assistance to Outdoor Experiences, Aquatics, and affiliates to provide quality programming for the public including set-up and take down; responds to requests for information; completes all requests by internal departments; coordinates with specialty divisions regarding projects (building trades, forestry, site construction).
  • Maintains equipment/fleet management: Ensures that vehicles and equipment are inspected prior to use or at least weekly, to verify safe operation; oversees the maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and other resources needed; verifies safe driving practices regarding all employees (fulltime and seasonal); analyzes vehicle and equipment needs and submit requests for repairs and replacement; participates on committees to provide input for fleet related issues.
  • Completes all administrative activities in a timely manner: Completes all reports and provides information requested by superiors or other divisions in a timely manner; completes all administrative activities in a timely manner; participates on various committees (offer input); attends all manager meetings and various administrative informational sessions.
  • Coordinates special events: Provides set-up and take-down assistance for reservation special events; coordinates maintenance activities to ensure clean and attractive facilities; monitors reservable facilities weekly; schedules cleanup and maintenance needs; assists with other interdepartmental events as needed; coordinates procurement of special equipment needs for events (stages, tables, toilets, lighting, signage, etc.).
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation management or related field. Minimum of five years of progressive parks and recreation experience to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license under the laws of the State of Ohio. CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • knowledge of methods and techniques of park and recreation management, including turf management, arboriculture, horticulture, building and facility design, construction and maintenance, conservation procedures and equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper operations and maintenance of typical park and recreation equipment such as tractors, Front End loader, graders, dump trucks, mowers, power and hand tools.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Management skills and strong business acumen, including problem solving, vision, ability to manage multiple programs and meet deadlines, collaboration, leadership, decision making and ability to analyze diverse facts and develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Proficiency in software programs including all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Mature professional attitude and considerable discretion, including ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
  • Must be non-smoker/tobacco user.

Work Schedule: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Flexibility is required for 24 hour availability.
