Capital Collateral Regional Counsel - Middle Region

The Office of the Capital Collateral Regional Counsel - Middle Region (“CCRC-M”) announces an immediate opening for a Full time entry-level capital post-conviction investigator position in Tampa, Florida. CCRC-M advocates for the constitutional rights and inherent dignity of indigent persons sentenced to death in the State of Florida in their state and federal post- conviction proceedings.

Job Duties: CCRC-M investigators are responsible for gathering facts and mitigation information about our clients and their cases. General areas of responsibility include locating and interviewing witnesses; writing reports, drafting declarations, serving subpoenas; developing a relationship with clients; interviewing clients' friends and family members; collecting documents; reviewing trial evidence; and working with attorneys and experts to develop mitigation themes.

Requirements: All applicants must have graduated from an accredited school with a bachelor's degree. A background in criminal justice, social work, or mental health is preferred but not necessary. A high level of computer literacy is required, and applicants must be able to organize work and set priorities to meet critical deadlines. This position may require extensive travel. It may also require working beyond business hours, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. A background investigation is required as a condition of employment and a copy of your college transcript may be requested if using an education background in substitute of experience.

Selection Criteria: Candidates must possess a commitment to the objective representation of death-sentenced individuals; have excellent oral and written communication skills; have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to develop a rapport with people of different backgrounds; be able to work independently and take initiative; be capable of analyzing and communicating complex information; and work well in teams.

Salary/Benefits: This is a full-time, at will position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include health and life insurance as well as various supplemental plans.
