The George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is seeking an Executive Director, Major & Principal Gifts, GW SMHS.
DAR is responsible for leading the university's fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. SMHS is the 11th oldest medical school in the country and the first in the nation's capital. Since its establishment, the school has been at the forefront of medical education, and has grown to include highly-ranked programs in emergency medicine, cancer treatment and research, as well as the health and biomedical sciences. This position is an integral component to achieving aspirational fundraising goals.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Major Gifts and Principal Gifts this position
In close partnership with the Assistant Vice President for Major and Principal Gifts, provides day-to-day fundraising leadership for the major gifts team. This role serves as an experienced major gift officer and assumes direct management of the GW SMHS major gift fundraising activity.
In strong collaboration and coordination with central development major and principal gift teams, this position works closely with DAR and SMHS senior leadership to develop and execute a sustainable development program that will broaden the GW SMHS's base of support.
This role directs a team of Departmental and Program-based major gift officers and development assistant, provides guidance and professional development opportunity, manages a portfolio of 75-90 top major and principal gift prospects, and is actively involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of top-tier prospects.
This position conducts 8-10 monthly prospect visits and oversees the development of plans and strategies of the major gift team in support of the organization's philanthropic priorities.
This role provides direct support to senior leadership through prospect strategy and data assessment, typically including the production of briefing materials, accompanying on donor visits, and preparation of proposals and correspondence.
This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance and recommends future staffing needs.
Coordinates with central development and leadership, develops the strategic messaging/impact narrative and overall campaign framework for SMHS.
Takes an integrated approach to constituent engagement within SMHS DAR to be able to build pipelines across the division.
Provides comprehensive communication and management of metrics, to include goal solicitation and attainment, pledge collection, portfolio management oversight, and how we rate it/business of.
Stewards assigned donors, including pledge collection and management of endowment funds to ensure appropriate spending and communication to donors.
Travel to support major and principal strategies is a requirement of this position.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be sCompanytituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
