Exercise PysiologistWashington, DC, USAReq #3091Wednesday, September 30, 2020*Summary*The Exercise Physiologist works under direction from the Health and Wellness Program Manager and Deputy Program Manager as an Exercise Physiologist for the MED Wellness Program. The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for the development, facilitation and collaboration of worksite health promotion physical activity and exercise specific trainings and messaging for the Department's Wellness Program. The Exercise Physiologist works directly with the Wellness Team to facilitate the processes and provide the technical expertise to ensure consistent evidence-based physical activity programming.*Duties/Responsibilities*+ Develop, plan, present, evaluate, and refine physical activity and fitness training opportunities for employees+ Provide recommendations regarding opportunities/needs and effectiveness of training resources+ Maintain training records+ Participate in identifying program needs, obtaining technical data and scheduling programs, and maintain program databases to arrange and manage various data essential to the program+ Continually assess the health education and wellness physical activity processes, suggest improvements, and seek guidance from the Health and Wellness Program Team to adjust when necessary+ Empower location-based wellness programs at posts and identify evidence-based physical activity and fitness programming+ Link Program Coordinators for Wellness to physical activity and fitness opportunities and initiatives+ Coordinate and work/meet regularly with the wellness and the OHW teams to ensure all initiatives and projects are congruent with the mission and objectives identified+ Collaborate with employees from throughout the Department with initiatives related to physical fitness+ Other duties as assigned*Qualifications*+ The candidate must be experienced and comfortable with public speaking for educational seminars and collaboration with other key stakeholders in their assigned locations.+ In order to be effective, the ideal candidate will have a background in and knowledge of the concepts of worksite health and wellness as it relates to physical activity and exercise. Additionally, the candidate will have skill in the use of computers and technology, to effectively communicate both verbally and written, to think strategically and develop long-range plans, and to analyze data and develop narratives to present meaningful information to others.+ The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor's degree in physical education, exercise science, exercise physiology or kinesiology.+ Certification by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in Exercise Physiology is Required.Supervisory ResponsibilityNone required for this position*Work Environment*This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.*Physical Demands*The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.+ Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.+ Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.+ Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.+ Expresses or exchanges ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.+ Frequently moves standard office equipment up to 25 pounds.+ Must be able to work indoor conditions 90% of the time.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.*Position Type/Expected Hours of Work*This is a Full time position.
