Heavy Highway Equipment Operator with prior years experience to work directly with the foreman and crew members. Responsible for operation of Heavy Equipment and general maintenace. Must work well with team to get desired results. This position will work both Heavy Highway and Commercial work and will travel between Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Oneida and occasionally Franklin and Clinton counties for work.

•Have proper certifications if needed on specific projects.
•Ability to take direction from supervisor/foreman and manually complete the task with minimal supervision.
•Ability to understand when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong (recognize there is a problem or may be a problem).
•Knowledge to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
•Ability to communicate information with others on the crew.
•Positive skill set & willingness to take on additional responsibilities & assisting the foreman.
•Proficient & familiar with equipment and the operational objectives of the task at hand.
•Work as a team member & produce the work in a timely, efficient and safe manner.
•Each operator has different skill sets on different types of equipment, understand this and do not operate a piece of machinery that you are not familiar with.
•Communicate to your immediate supervisor any issues you may have either with operational objectives or issues with the machine

•Ability to recognize safety issues.
•Able to understand grades and project layout.
•Willingness to work as a team and share knowledge.
•Ability to deal with clients & inspection staff in a professional manner.
•Capable of performing work in outdoor conditions (including shifts at night, day, holidays and weekends as required).
•Ability to operate various pieces of equipment efficiently and safely.
•Knowledge of all aspects of heavy highway operations to include but not limited to: asphalt placement, earthwork operations, concrete operations, and asphalt preparations.
•Capable of performing work at set tolerances while still maintaining expected production rates safely.
•Proficient with daily equipment inspection & maintenance requirement
•Always adhere to safety regulations and company safety policies.
•Help foreman to identify hazards associated with daily activities.
•Be directly involved in safety meetings (project safety kickoff meeting, weekly tool box talks and Daily Huddles).
•Watch out for other team members as well as him/herself at all times.
•Ensure that all proper PPE is being worn.
•Involved with any pre & post shift log of utilities above & blow ground previously laid out by Dig Safely.
•Use extreme caution when encountering any utility mark outs, hand dig when get near utility per specifications.
•Be extremely cautious when employee's or inspection staff are around on foot.
•Be familiar with piece of equipment you are running. If unsure read the operators manual & still if unsure contact shop for assistance.
•Production NEVER comes before SAFETY. Respect the machine and others around you.
•Fill out daily equipment check list on a daily basis pre & post shift.
•Be cognizant of the blind areas associated with the machine and plan accordingly.
•Accountable for his or her actions (positive or negative).

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work long hours in hot weather conditions. Must be able to lift 75 lbs, Must be able to travel to various counties with the job.
