The Director of Business System will provide the strategic direction for all the ADS business systems. This position helps to define the strategic direction of the transportation business at the Company and plans and implements technical service strategies within a shared services environment to support business and user needs. This position also acts as a critical liaison with other departments to identify and assure the business system needs align with the enterprise needs. Using complex data modeling and by analyzing trends, this position improves business performance through a team of business analysts and systems administrators and close interaction with the IT development team. The Director of Business Systems develops budgets, policies and procedures to support the functional infrastructure and understands the operation of a transportation business.

Primary Job Functions

1. Plans, selects, executes and oversees the design, operation and implementation of all major systems of the business.

2. Accountable for department strategic and tactical planning and metrics to measure performance of applications within the portfolio, including but not limited to internally developed applications, portal/mobile technologies and data warehouse technologies. Reprots the progress to the executive team and manages requirements for development team to support the business.

3. Communciates with staff regularly and seeks their input along with keeping them informed regarding issues that affect their areas of responsibility. Clarifies with team who is responsible for what and delegates responsibility where appropriate.

4. Manages the performance of the team by providing clear goals and then holding the team members accountable for achieving those goals.

5. Acts as a trusted advisor and builds and maintains relationships with other IT leaders and busienss executives to develop a clear understanding of busienss needs; coordinates cost-effective deliver of IT services to meet those needs and responds with agility to changing business priorities.

6. Particiaptes in the assessment of external and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning for the business.

7. Develops and maintains constructive working relationships with technology vendors and ccordinates arrangments for large IT purchases (hardware and software), maintenance contracts, programming and consulting services. Arranges and/or attends meetings where appropriate to positively resolve IT issues.

8. Maintains currency on new technologies and platforms and povides directions on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced into the busienss to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs of the business strategy.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Logistics or related field or equivalent work experience

10 plus years of diverse experience in business intelligence, data warehousing, database architecture and application design and development. Experience applying technology in a transportation environment is strongly preferred

Preferably five or more years of experience in large, cross-functional teams influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders effectively across the organization and within complex contexts

Experience with MercuryGate (TMS); PeopleNet; Transcom; Fleet Management Systems; ELD Tracking Systems; Trailer Tracking (SkyBitz, ID Systems, etc.); Familiarity with databases such as Azure, Sequel, Oracle, API protocols and EDI.

Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational design and development.

Proven experience or demonstrated capability in leading IT transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders and business concepts to the team.

Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate organization vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns to the IT and business strategy

Ability to instill confidence in the business and demonstrate the business value of IT

Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be reporting directly to this role.

Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, and strategic planning and execution skills.

Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and the business units

Deep understanding of current and emerging analytics and digital technologies and how other enterprises are employing them

Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic people plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time and employees are highly engaged and satisfied

Strong vendor management and partner relations skills to identify and leverage resources internal and external to the enterprise to enhance capabilities that support business objectives

Ability to drive organizational change and build world class development teams

Ability to leverage influencing and negotiation skills across IT and the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in achievement of business goals.
