Head of Engineering (Permanent)

Head of Engineering - Hybrid - Permanent - £100k per annum
As the Head of Engineering you will be instrumental in driving innovation and technical excellence across our department. Your primary responsibilities will include setting a clear strategic vision, developing our people, and establishing best practices to inspire our engineers to be Digital Change Makers for our clients. You will cultivate a collaborative, growth-minded culture that empowers our team to stay ahead of the technology curve and exceed client expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Foster a collaborative, customer-centric engineering culture focused on innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence across Front End, Server Side, and Cloud disciplines.
- Demonstrate technical authority and capability to build trust as a subject matter expert with our clients.
- Oversee and drive the strategy for our managed services offering, interfacing with clients and account leads.
- Provide strategic leadership and technical direction for the engineering department, defining the roadmap and innovation strategy, and leading the team to execute against it.
- Partner closely with other Heads of Departments to deliver strategy initiatives across the business
- Mentor, manage, and develop the engineering leadership team, promoting career growth, a growth mindset, and succession planning across our 60 Engineers.
Key skills:
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing, cross-functional engineering teams in a consulting or professional services environment.
- Deep expertise across Front End (HTML, JavaScript, React), Server Side (.NET, Node.js), and cloud (AWS, Azure) technologies.
- Solid understanding of containerization (Docker), infrastructure-as-code, and continuous deployment practices.
- Previous hands-on software engineering experience, including several years in an impactful engineering leadership role.
- Proficient in Agile/Scrum methodologies, including experience with SAFe.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and adopt emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Experience supporting new business activities and client-facing interactions as a subject matter expert.
