About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Technical Solutions Engineer to join the Solutions team working within Mission Systems - Information Systems business. As a Technical Solutions Engineer you'll reach in to the extensive technical and project resource within Mission Systems providing total support to projects throughout the development life cycle.

Using your experience of IT Network, Software and Computer Engineering, you'll deliver novel solutions to our expanding current and prospective customer base. Reporting to the Information Systems Solutions Manager, you'll take ownership of opportunities - planning, developing and presenting proof of concept solutions to customers with support from the wider team as required.

Main Purpose of Role
* Undertake troubleshooting on existing systems
* Develop rapid prototype architectures and system designs
* Present products and solutions externally to customers and internal stakeholders
* Work closely with project teams to develop costed proposals for new solutions
* Support trade shows and exhibitions, both presenting Babcock products and solutions to delegates and also providing technical support for products on trade stands.
* Visit customer sites and establishments to view existing systems and build customer relationships.
* Provide technical assistance and domain expertise into bidding and tendering activities.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll hold a relevant Engineering or IT qualification such as a degree, foundation degree or HND alongside Chartered or Incorporated status with a Professional Body such as The IET or British Computing Society. Alternatively, Membership and evidence of working towards Chartered or Incorporated status.

We would also like you to have experience in all or some or all of the following areas:

* Sound fundamental knowledge of key Information Technology subject areas, including IP network design and configuration, Operating System build and configuration, Network and System architecture design, Database architectures, Active Directory, Group Policy, Virtualisation technologies, Serial Communications.
* Hardware integration and configuration - for example integration of communications hardware (modems, radio receivers, cryptographic equipment), Proposing IT hardware such as Servers, workstations, storage. A knowledge and understanding of defence and government communications networks would be advantageous but not essential.
* Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering, fundamentals of RF, signals test and measurement. RF hardware (signal generation, spectral analysis).

Lastly, you'll have the ability to lead small delivery teams in addressing and presenting to customers and colleagues, but also the self-motivation to work independently where required.

What else do I need to know?
* This position is within the Defence Systems Technology business unit as a grade 6, which has a starting salary of £42,180.
* This role will be based at either Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth and/or Ashchurch, Gloucester.
* The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
