Azure Cloud Engineer (Contract)

Azure Cloud Engineer - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 12 months

Contracting Authority: Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

Location: Remote - occasional travel to London


The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero was created in February 2023 with the goal of securing a safe energy supply as well as ensuring the UK leads the way in achieving Net Zero. We are an innovative and exciting department, looking for the very best to lead the way.

The Department of Energy and Net Zero has a secure analytic platform for its Analytical community. The platform sits on the Azure Public Cloud and is supported by a small Internal team.

The platform has been on Azure for just under 2 years and is constantly introducing new features on the platform. The internal engineer's aims are to make sure the infrastructure is built to user needs, is cost effective, future proof, and ensures security principles.

The cloud engineer will work to our Cloud Architecture and Product Manager as well as working alongside the other engineers.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks.
  • Good understanding of Azure cloud services and architecture.
  • Ability to configure service and private endpoints for Azure PaaS.
  • Ability to configure internal and public load balancers and troubleshooting load balancing.
  • Experienced in running Windows and Linux virtual machines on the cloud.
  • Skills to monitor and maintain Azure resources.
  • Experience of managing storage solutions for virtual database files, hard disks, application data, Azure files, DataLake, etc.
  • Knowledge of configuring Azure DNS.
  • Experience in Azure Security.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, BICEP, or Python for automation and task automation in Azure.

Desirable:

  • Public Sector experience.
