Job Description:

Join a leading engineering firm specialising in delivering top-tier products and services to the rail sector. We are passionate about providing practical solutions and solving complex problems. We are currently seeking a skilled and dynamic Principal Systems Engineer to join our Stockport team.

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our railway products. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the entire systems life cycle and engage in diverse projects. Your expertise will be essential in developing and enhancing tools and processes, promoting continuous improvement. You will provide technical support and guidance to your colleagues, serving as a mentor.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and assess system design specifications, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.
  • Conduct system modelling, simulation, and analysis to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate signalling systems into the wider railway infrastructure.
  • Lead or participate in signalling projects, ensuring adherence to project time lines, budgets, and quality benchmarks.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and provide regular project updates.
  • Support procurement activities, including evaluating suppliers and equipment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in meetings, workshops, and technical reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to railway signalling systems, minimising operational disruptions.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to optimise system performance and availability.
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancements of maintenance processes and protocols.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, feasibility studies, and technical specifications.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in railway signalling technology, standards, and regulations.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues to foster team growth and development.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in the Railway Signalling Industry, with proficiency in Solid State Interlocking Systems.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong grasp of systems engineering principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certification or accreditation in railway signalling (eg, IRSE Licence) preferred.
  • Possession of a Master's degree or Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.
  • Collaborative team player with a passion for problem-solving and innovation.
