Legal & General are currently looking for a Monitoring and Event Architect to create the vision and strategy of IT Service Operations' tooling (Monitoring) based on an understanding of current, and anticipation of future, business needs.
For the right candidate, we can offer £850 p/d inside of IR35 (plus 17.3% Umbrella uplift) to join L&G on an initial 26-week contract, with the view to extend subject to performance. Based out of the L&G office in Hove, you will work on a hybrid basis, ideally attending the office once per week, although further flexibility is available for the right candidate.

Reporting into the Head of Service Operations, you will carry out an assessment of the current landscape of monitoring tools, working collaboratively with L&G Business Units, Technical Services, Architects, Service Management, Group Technology Management & our Strategic Partners. You will then create the strategy and roadmap required to standardise and improve IT services.
Principal Accountabilities
Perform an assessment of the current L&G Monitoring Portfolio, Group Technology and Business Units, to include Supplier tools (Vodafone, HCL, TCS & Kyndryl). The goal is to understand the coverage, tools, and standards we currently have in place today with a purpose to:
- Save costs
- Standardise
- Simplify
- Review current Event Management Process/Procedure Documentation ensuring it is operationally standardised to be adopted by all L&G Business Units for IT Monitoring.
- Assess current roles and responsibilities for monitoring within L&G which includes understanding our Supplier responsibilities. Once assessed, define roles and responsibilities across Group including Business User SME's/Group Technology SME's/Supplier SME's
- Working with L&G Technical Services, Architects and Group Technology Management, produce a short-, medium- & long-term strategy & roadmap document for Monitoring and Event Management.
The document is to include:
- A refined list of tools with supporting assessment/evidence
- Definitions of event correlation standards for the interaction with Service-Now through to Incident
- Make recommendations for tactical improvements in line with the agreed roadmap
The proposed Roadmap is to be agreed initially with Group Technology Services then all BU's.
- Create standards which define the requirements for integrations between existing/future tools. This is to include a retrospective audit of existing integrations post strategy agreement eg, ServiceNow.
- In line with recent audit findings, tactically improve the current noise levels of Event Management in ServiceNow. Focussed on reducing the number of unnecessary Incidents and where possible correlate Events/Alerts into agreed Incidents with auto-assignment to the relevant Resolver Group to provide early notification.
- Work closely with the Process Leads in Service Operations (Major Incident, Problem, Change, and Configuration Management) ensuring any strategic plans underpin any Service Operational activities within the team.
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, knowledge, and skills:
- Extensive architectural experience as an SME in Monitoring/Tooling, with detailed knowledge of a wide range of Monitoring Tools.
- Experienced with integration of Tools into ServiceNow.
- Has previously assessed 'as is' and created a 'to be' Monitoring Strategy, with experience managing and interpreting performance to enable business improvements.
- Extensive knowledge of IT Infrastructure, including in-depth understanding of associated technologies and architectures.
- Broad experience across IT systems and products including working with large scale IT out-sourcing.
- Stakeholder management skills with excellent written and oral communication skills
