Technical Author - Engineering - 3 days onsite (Contract)

Location: Stonehouse Country: UK Rate: £300.00 - £350 per day + Inside IR35
 

Opportunity for a Technical Writer to join a Global Supplier of IT and Engineering Services to the Oil and Gas industry in Gloucestershire. You will form part of the Technical Communications team, maintaining and updating technical information with relevant experts.

You will support various engineering project teams, facilitating the creation of high quality and accurate technical documents such as assembly and test procedures and user guides. The ability to take technical information and present it in a clear and concise form that can be understood by people with basic English language skills is essential.

Job Description:

  • Create, update and maintain technical reference, maintenance and operational content for use by field engineers & technicians by working closely with project engineering teams.
  • Write structured documentation (using Arbortext Editor) in a content management system (PTC WindChill) that maximises comprehension and ease of use.
  • Produce clear, concise, and accurate content for a wide range of users including users whose first language is not English.
  • Edit documents supplied from subject matter experts according to corporate standards and style. An understanding of Simplified Technical English would be useful.
  • Obtain source information from internal project documentation sources and interviews with project team members as well as from change request tickets.
  • Able to go to the manufacturing area to observe assembly of products and help document the procedures.
  • Manage review cycles and incorporate review comments.
  • Produce and edit graphics such as taking photos during engineering assembly, cropping photos, adding callouts, take engineering CAD models and produce renders/exploded views, etc.

Key Skills:

  • Strong technical writing skills with at least two years technical writing experience.
  • Excellent technical writing and editing skills in a content management, structured authoring environment.
  • Some experience with graphic software such as PhotoShop, Illustrator or Creo, etc to create/edit images.
  • Able to carry out editorial reviewing of work produced by peers and follow corporate style guides.
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills to manage the flow of information from contributors and reviewers.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated.
