Senior Accountant (Permanent)

Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England Country: UK Rate: Up to £80,000 Market related
 

Our client is a UK life and pensions company helping customers plan and save for the long term, with roots going back over 100 years. They operate in one of the largest, most sophisticated insurance markets in the world. Due to expansion, they're now seeking a Senior Accountant to join their thriving team in Aylesbury. The role will pay a competitive up to £80,000 plus a 25% annual bonus and will come with a range of benefits.

What is expected of the Senior Accountant?

  • Contribute and collaborate with the Financial Reporting team with the delivery of the monthly, half yearly and annual financial and regulatory reporting. Reporting is done on the following bases; UK GAAP, IFRS and Solvency II.
  • Supporting the Finance management team to co-ordinate activities and ensure all key deliverables are delivered to time, cost and quality metrics
  • Ensure that returns eg Solvency II are accurate and submitted on time
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of financial positions including Statutory Accounts and Solvency II returns
  • Analyse results and query figures and provide insights on the data available
  • Contribute significantly to projects and provide appropriate financial input as necessary
  • Liaison with third parties where required, including external auditors and fund custodians, to progress resolution of any queries.
  • Maintain a compliant culture that meets expected conduct measures including regulatory requirements
  • Maintain risks arising from the activities and deliverables in accordance with the Risk Management Framework and Policies.
  • Monitor the regulatory environment in respect of Solvency II and related areas
  • Ensure records are maintained and controlled in accordance with prescribed practices and procedures
  • Review effectiveness of the Finance control environment (including systems) and implement changes where required
  • Act as Finance Lead or SME for Finance projects from initiation to implementation
  • Lead in the specification of new systems and process developments

What we look for in a Senior Accountant?

  • Strong financial knowledge and analysis skills. Digs deeper to understand, explain and resolve queries and the business impact.
  • Track record of delivering to projects across the organisation to achieve milestones and objectives. Proactive approach to delivery
  • Ability to understand what is important/critical in terms of implementation of new business and/or projects.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve systems, procedures, processes and colleague development
  • Confident in building and developing relationships at all levels within and outside organisations
  • Qualified accountant (ACA; ACCA; CIMA)
  • Experience in life insurance industry, regulations, finance operations and reporting
  • Knowledge and experience of Solvency II and IFRS17 regulations and requirements
  • Good working knowledge of General Ledger and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong financial analyst skills able to solve complex problems that have broad impacts.
  • Knowledge of systems implementation.
