Payments Architect

Must Experience & skills

• Payments Domain Knowledge: In-depth understanding of payment processing systems, including various payment methods (credit/debit cards, ACH, wire transfers, etc.), IFSF standards, payment gateways, and payment networks. Furthermore EMVCo standards for card acceptance, contact via EMVCo specifications and contactless via Visa, Mastercard and EMVCo kernels (C3, C4 and C8)
• B2B Payment Solutions: Familiarity with B2B payment workflows, authorisation/authentication, invoicing, reconciliation, and related processes specific to business-to-business transactions.
• Payment APIs and Integration: Experience in integrating with third-party payment APIs (eg, Stripe, PayPal, Braintree) and designing robust, scalable payment integration solutions.
• 3DS Architecture Expertise: Proven experience in architecture work for development of 3DS components such as SCA, DS, MFA. Deep understanding of the SCA and DS services and design for issuer domain
• Digital payments architecture expertise including Digital wallets, digital accounts, virtual payment methods (Card not present and Card not required), digital banking, Web based payments (E-commerce). Experience with architecture design of purely digital payment architecture including payment method registration process
• Proven experience in creation of the End-to-end strategic architecture and transition architecture designs including C1-C3 levels based on C4 architecture. Experience with retrofit architecture from physical to digital. Development of the architecture roadmaps
• Security and Compliance: Knowledge of payment security standards such as PCI DSS, GDPR, PSD2/3, Data encryption standards (IFSF-Security standards) and other relevant regulations to ensure compliance and data protection (eg Tokenisation, Private and Public key exchange (FIDO), Interconnections for 3DS version 2.3.1.1)
• Fraud Detection and Prevention: Ability to design and implement fraud detection and prevention measures to safeguard against fraudulent transactions, including machine learning-based fraud detection techniques
• Scalability and Performance Optimization: Expertise in designing scalable and high-performance payment systems capable of handling large transaction volumes efficiently.
• Microservices Architecture: Proficiency in architecting payment systems using microservices architecture to enable flexibility, maintainability, and independent scaling of components.
• Data Encryption and Tokenization: Understanding of encryption techniques and tokenization methods to secure sensitive payment data both in transit and at rest.
• Real Time Processing: Experience in designing Real Time payment processing systems to facilitate instant transactions and improve customer experience.
• Vendor Management: Experience in evaluating, selecting, and managing relationships with payment service providers, banks, and other vendors to ensure the reliability and efficiency of payment processing.
• API Design and Documentation: Proficiency in designing well-documented, RESTful APIs for payment processing and related functionalities, adhering to industry best practices.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with evolving regulatory requirements and industry trends in the payments landscape to ensure the company's payment systems remain compliant and competitive.

Soft & other skills

• Strong stakeholder management with a great attitude, very personable - they need to have stakeholder management skills to complement their technical skills
• knowledge of BIAN and their reference architecture
• Client facing type architect - cannot be a back-room architect who cannot present, build relationships with stakeholders etc.
• Committed and driven to work up and down the organisation hierarchy - can work with sponsors/VP level, but also roll up their sleeves and work with the on-the-ground project team in the detail
