Physical Therapy Assistant (Full Time)

SUMMARY

The Licensed Therapy Assistant assists in the provision of therapy treatment under the supervision of a licensed therapist in accordance with prevailing state laws and national regulations (PTA under PT.) Licensed Therapy Assistants also participate and comply with the policies of the therapy department and the Heinzerling Community under the supervision of the Director of Therapy and/or the Therapy Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Implements therapeutic programs and treatment within the instruction and guidelines established by the therapist; notifies therapist of progress or changes.

Implements therapeutic programs and treatment which include but are not limited to positioning, mobility, sensory and motor development, orthopedic status, adaptive equipment, feeding, ADL's.

Designs, constructs and monitors resident use of adaptive equipment, orthotic devices, wheelchairs, and mobility and positioning devices and informs therapist of resident needs, changes, and progress in these areas.

Assists therapist in assessments/evaluations upon admission, annually, or as necessitated by changes in resident status.

Instructs facility staff and residents' families in the rationale, procedures, and precautions of therapy programs as directed by therapist.

Documents rendered services (direct and indirect) to comply with professional and legal standards, as well as with requirements of regulatory agencies. The supervising therapist will review documentation and counter-sign.

Attends resident-related and department meetings as required, including annual IP's, quarterly reviews, unit meetings, IP in-services, and therapy department meetings and in-services.

Participates in general supportive functions needed to assist the therapist and to maintain an efficient work environment such as filing, maintaining supply inventory, occasional shopping and clean-up of work area.

Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team with staff members from the Heinzerling Community as well as outside agencies as pertains to residents' goals, status, behavior, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduate of a two-year accredited college or technical school in a physical therapy assistant program; at least six months related experience and/or training.
