Global Head of Investments Data – Mercer Investments

Mercer is looking to recruit a Global Head of Data for its Investment Solutions Business (Mercer Investments). The Head of Data will be focused on the setting and executing on the strategic direction of investment data and will report into the Global Chief Operating Officer, Mercer Investment Solutions.

This need has been born from Mercer Investments' organic growth; starting out as an Investment Consulting business which has since transformed into a Delegated Investment Solutions (OCIO) model. Mercer is looking to build its next generation of the Investment Platform for its assets under management (AUM), with a future state of having $1 trillion AUM. This therefore needs clear strategic direction and orchestration.

Whilst the role covers Mercer's Investments business, the initial priority will be focused on Mercer's Investment Solutions business unit, where large-scale strategic transformation is currently taking place, which will rely on effective Data & Technology capabilities.The main remit of the role is to drive strategic change within the business, lead the global data team delivery and to partner with Mercer's Data & Analytics (D&A) COE and Global Technology teams to deliver the technical implementation. The role will be based in either Boston, Dublin, or London, but would be expected to engage and unify the Investment data strategy with Mercer teams across multiple regions.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe primary purpose of the role is to define and embed the Data strategy and vision for Mercer Investments, and ensure the related initiatives align to wider Mercer business objectives and requirements.Strategy Definition & LeadershipLead the definition and design of Mercer's overall Investment data strategy, which includes articulating Mercer Investment's data landscape and outlining the approach to data governance, data management, and information strategyDrive a focus on creating value from the data that Mercer uses on a day-to-day basisOwn the enterprise Investments data model at the macro level, and responsible for the ongoing development of the data business strategiesDrive solutions that enable growth of the business at both the local market and global levelOperating Model & ArchitectureDefine the optimal data operating model, which creates a core data capability and allows the seamless and effective use of data within the businessProvide significant contribution to the cloud strategy and approach, working with architects and technology leadersDefine all aspects of the data governance model (eg taxonomy, data dictionaries, data governance, data quality, core roles, policies & processes)Partner with Technology teams to define the appropriate data architecture, infrastructure and tooling which would be required to meet the needs of the overall data strategy, in conjunction with technology leaders/teamsRoadmap, Delivery & MeasurementCreate a clear roadmap for the development of Mercer's Data journeys, capabilities, and work with colleagues across the business to orchestrate this into an impactful programme of workPrioritise and sequence activities within this roadmap in conjunction with business and technology colleagues, which aim to create value quickly, meet short term business needs, and provide for the longer-term building of enhanced capabilitiesDefine the relevant metrics and measures that need to be in place, and develop relevant dashboards to monitor progress.Collaboration & CultureLead, motivate and manage an Investments Data Strategy team, ensuring a culture of high performance, comprising of Data Strategists and Data Governance leadsCreate strong partnerships and collaboration with business, data, and technology leaders across the organisation, to ensure data needs are fully understood and capabilities are developedAct as an ambassador and proponent for moving towards a data-driven culture in MercerDevelop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and vendors to align strategies with business needs.

Continuous Improvement & InnovationPartner with business and technology colleagues to identify areas for data innovation (tooling, vendors, approaches etc.) which can drive the data strategy forward, but also ensure Mercer is seen as a leader in this spaceCreate an environment where continuous improvement is pursued and how this forms part of the strategic backlog for any Data related change portfolio.RegulatoryEnsure all relevant regulatory standards, policies and laws are fully reflected in the strategic and operational delivery of the data strategy (eg privacy, security, usage etc.).

Required ExperienceThis role requires a mix of Business, Strategy, Technology and Data experience, and the ability to drive transformative change within a global organisation. The main areas of experience include:Ideally 10-15 years of experience working in the Asset Management industry, ideally with direct exposure to investments and not in a purely technical role.At least 5 years' experience of enterprise data strategy accountabilities within an Asset Management organisationKnowledge and experience of working across the data ecosystems that exist within Asset and Wealth Managers and/or OCIOs.

Relevant experience with defining strategic visions and roadmaps to drive business change, ideally with a global/multi-regional scope.Proven track record of shaping and leading large-scale transformation and change within complex organisations.Strong history of business case development, ensuring finances are constructed correctly (as expected at CxO level).

Cross-industry/cross-technology experience, with ability to demonstrate a deep insight into market trends, best practices, Investment related technologies and thought leadership.Skills & QualificationsDeep knowledge of core vendors and technologies used for investments- and data-related activity.Subject matter expertise in the core areas of the investments business (eg securities, fund types, asset allocation, clients and counterparties etc.).

Expert level knowledge across core Data & Technology topics (eg cloud, automation, AI/ML, and emerging technologies).Able to demonstrate a results-orientated approach, with a strong history of driving changeCapable of running supplier management and commercial negotiations with strong commercial awareness.Presenting and communicating at CxO level and the associated influencing experience.

Including the ability to engage credibly with, and influence, senior business and functional stakeholders.Ability to clearly communicate concepts and business outcomes with the ability to influence change with the executive levelStrong communication skills both verbal and written and excellent presentation skills up to CxO level.Ability to work under pressure whilst demonstrating a results-oriented approach.
