Job DescriptionSummary

Responsible for respondingto requests for ALS intervention and for providing emergencymedical care in the pre-hospital environment according to ParamedicProtocols and Policies approved by SSHS and the ALS system MedicalDirector. Performs other duties related to the provision of careand development of the community EMS system. Assists in theHospital as assigned after appropriatecredentialing.

JobDescription

1.Responds to requests for paramedic services from area departmentsin a timely and safe manner.

a. Upon receiving call, finishes task at hand and acknowledgestown dispatcher by radio within two minutes.

b. Follows Massachusetts laws Chapter 89, Sect. 7 and Chapter90, Sections 7, 13, 14, 16 and 17 regarding emergencydriving.

c. Contacts requesting towndispatcher by radio to report time enroute, scene arrival andunavailable status.

d. Parks vehicle inareas designed by local fire or police, or in a safe area if notdirected.

2. Completesdocumentation and records according to departmentpolicy.

a. Run report willbe completed accurately and legibly.

b. Runreport data will be entered into computer databaseaccurately.

c. The vehicle/equipmentchecklist will be completed on every shift.

d. All responses will be recorded in the trip log.

e. Patient charges will be completed and submittedwith each trip report where treatment was provided.

f. Patient refusals will be documented as theyoccur completing a trip sheet and refusal form.

g. Narcotics will be signed off per policy.

3. Ensures vehicle and equipment areready for response at all times.

a. Knows location and proper use of equipment.

b. Restocks vehicle and equipment within 30minutes following run.

c. Keeps vehicleclean and maintains fuel and fluids per schedule or asneeded.

d. Reports damaged or unsafeequipment to Director upon problem identification.

4. Renders pre-hospitalmedical care at the paramediclevel.

a. Performs completeand accurate patient assessments.

b. Adheresto Region IV treatment protocols and procedures and carries outmedical control's orders within own scope of practice.

c. Is proficient in all related ALS skills.

d. Has a pleasant and professional manner withpatients.

e. Gives accurate, concise radioreports and adheres to established radio communicationprotocols.

f. Maintains sufficient knowledgeof geography.

5.Performs assigned duties in the emergency department under thesupervision of the EDphysicians.

a. Performsonly those techniques within scope of training, under direction ofMedical Control Physician.

b. Assists with12 Lead EKGs, blood draws, IV insertions.

c.Charts skills done in-house according to appropriatepolicy.

6. Acts as a team leader in dealing with emergencyresponses.

a. Demonstratesability to control emergency scenes.

b.Directs EMTs and other medical personnel on scene in the patient'sbest interest.

c. Interacts with local EMTsand public safety, fire and police in a spirit of cooperation andprofessionalism.

7.Takes proper care of vehicle andequipment.

a. Prevents lossor damage of equipment by careful handling and storage.

b. Maintains equipment and vehicle according topolicy.

c. Keeps vehicle locked whenunattended.

8. Pursuesnew levels in Paramedicine technology and participates inactivities which contribute to professional growth anddevelopment.

a. Maintainscurrent certifications as required.

b.Shares new information with fellow staff.

c.Attends monthly staff meetings.

d. Maintainsa skill log for all skills done.

9. Participates in community activities which improvethe public's understanding of the EMSsystem.

a. Represents SouthShore Health & Educational Corporation and the Department ofParamedic Services to the public in a positive, professionalmanner.

b. Participates effectively inplanned public relations events.

Minimum Work Experience
Prior experience as aprovider of pre-hospital care in an emergency setting
Critical care experience preferred/ALS transfers
Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, attime of hire, with annual verification required thereafter.
Required Licenses/Registrations - Requirement to practice aprofession. Licenses are granted by a licensing board in accordancewith state law. Example - Registered Nurse (RN)
ACLS -EMS
BLS - EMS
VDL - Valid DriversLicense

Preferred (not required) Licenses/Registrations
MA DRIVERS - Massachusetts DriversLicense

Required Certifications- Certifies a specific competency or recognition in a professionalachievement.
Example - Certified Nursing Assistant(CNA)
EMT- P - Emergency MedicalTechnician-Paramedic
