You will play a pivotal role in shaping the tax function, driving strategic tax planning initiatives, and minimizing tax risks.

You will oversee all aspects of corporate taxation, ensuring compliance and optimizing our tax strategies. This role requires a self-starter who can conduct independent research, collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, and liaise with external advisors.*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank.

Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group and Evolve Bank & Trust; Members FDICYou will:Oversee and manage all aspects of tax compliance, including federal, state, and local tax filingsImplement a Sales Tax compliance program for upcoming product launches and manage the monthly sales and use tax returns for multiple statesWork with our outside tax team to ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of tax returns and related documentation.Lead the coordination of preparation and review of annual tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 and related disclosuresMaintain a tax calendar of payments and submissionPrepare technical accounting memos to address tax issues raised in various business transactionsDevelop and implement strategic tax planning initiativesConduct tax research and analysis to identify opportunities for tax savings and efficienciesMonitor state tax nexus and assist with other filings such as business licenses, state registrations, gross receipts filing, franchise taxes, and annual reportsPrepare tax forecasts and projections to support budgeting and strategic planning effortsMaintain a tax calendar of payments and submissionCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to address tax-related inquiries and issuesStay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and minimize tax risksYou have:Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or Master's in Taxation requiredOver 6 years of experience in tax compliance, planning, and strategyA combination of public (Big 4 preferred) corporate tax and private tax experienceStrong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax conceptsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze financial data and identify tax implicationsStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex tax issues to non-tax professionalsThe total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry.

New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $191,300 - $225,100 US employees outside of the New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $172,200 - $202,600We use Covey as part of our hiring and/or promotional process for jobs in NYC and certain features may qualify it as an AEDT.
