Azure Engineer (Permanent)

Azure/Cloud Engineer is required by a buoyant financial services organisation based in London. This role will see you working with architects to help design, plan and implement new solutions and enhance existing solutions within their cloud estate. In this hands-on role you will also be responsible for documenting and handing over the service to the Operational Teams ensuring that monitoring and SLAs are in place to support the business going forward.

You will have solid experience in delivering and operating multi-region Azure infrastructure and services in line with modern practices such as Everything as Code through both change and run processes, plus administering and troubleshooting enterprise Cloud platforms and Microsoft technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with Architecture and vendors to build new or enhance existing solutions
  • Assist with the design and plan enterprise-scale Azure environments including application dependencies, data storage, network connectivity and overall cloud hosting
  • Ensure that all cloud solutions follow internally defined security and compliance controls
  • Lead in the implementation and handover to Operational Support of infrastructure solutions
  • Define the operational processes to effectively manage the (cloud) environment
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance operations (evergreening service changes, patching, upgrades, disaster recovery tests, etc).
  • Interface with other teams across the organisation in order to establish and enforce best practices and standards
  • Contributing to the development of the company's 'Cloud' and IT Strategy
  • Keeping abreast of advancement in technology solutions and offerings and recommending change where required
  • Responsible for ensuring all compliance and risk issues are understood and highlighted to senior management as they arise
  • Providing technical guidance and assistance to Operational teams where necessary
  • Taking personal responsibility to ensure solutions are evaluated, planned, tested and that solution meets the requirements of the end users
  • Developing project plans, tracking and reporting to deadlines
  • Preparing and testing technical knowledgebase articles as well as systems documentation
  • Champion Agile best-practices, processes, and tools in support of DevOps processes

Key Requirements:

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Azure technology stack.
  • Experience of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code tools and concepts.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools such as Github, Gitlab, DevOps, Pester, Katalon.
  • Knowledge of unit tests, integration tests, system tests, YAML and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Configuration as Code, Policy as Code and Documentation as Code.
  • Excellent Entra ID and Active Directory administration experience plus familiarity with technologies in wider Identity and Access Management including PAM, PIM and RBAC.
  • Experience with Microsoft Defender for Cloud, cloud security posture management (CSPM) and cloud workload protection platforms (CWPP).
  • Knowledge of Azure key vault, including secrets, certificates and keys.
  • Knowledge of APIs, APIM, and strong Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, SQL).
  • Strong working knowledge of networking concepts and security principles within Azure and in the context of a global hybrid environment including DNS, Firewalls, segmentation, load balancers, proxies, authentication, authorisation, Virtual WAN and SDWAN.
  • Experience investigating and troubleshooting Windows Server & Desktop Operating Systems.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes clusters and Microservices.
  • Good knowledge of traditional networks, Firewalls and load balancers
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with an ability to extract, translate and communicate meaningful information at all levels of executives, management and peers
  • Strong technical documentation skills; workflows, architectural diagrams, support documentation
